This past Saturday, the DRFC took on the Princeton Tigers in their first Ivy League match of the season. The clock had been rolling for less than five minutes before winger Tim Gerber ’21 scored the first try of the match off of a well-timed offload from fullback Jack Wagner ’22. From that point on, the Big Green played most of their rugby in the Tigers’ half. Mattias Calvin ’23 struck next of a hard line on the outside.
The Big Green had the momentum and the tries began to accumulate. Captain Mason Koch ’20 was the next to score off of a brilliant line up the middle. His try was quickly followed by another from freshman Quinn Heyneman ’23. Gerber added to the score with another two tries in the corner. Augustine Meyer ‘22 scored next, followed by Jaime Chuidian ‘23, and then Heyneman again. Then late into the second half, Co-Captain Pat Sheehy ’20 set up Calvin for his second try of the day off of a well-placed kick inside the Tigers’ own 22. Scrumhalf Jarett Lewis ‘21 dotted down a try of his own off of a pick and go from the base of the ruck. Before the final whistle was blown, Meyer put down yet another try under the sticks making the final score of the match 88 – 0. Go Big Green!
The DRFC put on a strong performance in their third match of the season. First years Heyneman, Chuidian, and Calvin put on an especially strong showing. This upcoming weekend the Big Green looks to take on Penn State, a top D1A team. The boys are hungry to put their hard work on display against one of the nation’s top programs.
